EKG Technician Program

Classes are 40 hours of classroom instruction plus 20 externship hours that TNPTI arranges with each student (60 hours in total).

Hour Requirements

Lab Hours: Extra lab practice is available Monday through Saturday. Please contact your instructor to schedule an appointment for extra lab practice.

Admission Requirements

Students wishing to enroll in the EKG program must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have a high school degree or GED equivalent
  • Have a clear criminal record
  • Be willing and able to work with patients while giving the best patient care possible

Course Outline

Goal

The goal of this course is to give phlebotomy students the knowledge and experience they need in conjunction with the standards of Tennessee to become a trained and employable phlebotomist. TNPTI’s phlebotomy program is designed to provide its students a superior education including small classes, experienced teachers and externship hours so that they may gain the skills and understanding needed for the profession.

Learning Objectives

Over the course of the phlebotomy program, students will learn:

  • Selection of the correct tubes for the requested tests
  • Utilization of the correct procedure for obtaining blood
  • Preparation and usage of equipment, including tubes, holders, needles, syringes, tourniquets, etc.
  • Selection of the appropriate vein
  • Venipuncture and collection of the required sample
  • Mixing and labeling of tubes
  • Performing blood cultures
  • Distribution of blood to the correct area of the lab
  • Proper patient respect and care

Instructional Materials

The $1,500 ($1,200 tuition + $300 materials) tuition includes the cost of materials and equipment.

Students are required to purchase their own set of scrubs (we recommend the purchase of black scrubs).

Attendance Requirement

TN Professional Training Institute’s Phlebotomy program is an intensive, accelerated, 85 Hour Phlebotomy program. Students who miss any class time may be moved to the next session at the discretion of the instructor.

Grading Policy

Students are required to maintain an 80% average to pass this course. If an 80% average is not maintained, students may have to repeat materials before completing the course.
